I spent four months this year working at a soup factory where I experienced some form off harassment every day both inside work and outside on breaks. There were very few women there and most of them were over 30. I’m 21. Most of the harrassment happened in the smoking shelter. The first time it happened I heard the other blokes (I was on my own with three other blokes) talking about someone called ‘Mary’ (not my name) in a pervy way; as I didn’t think it was about me I ignored it, until one of them turned to me and said ‘So ARE you a virgin then, Mary?’, I didn’t even know what to say, I just looked at him, finished my cigarette and went for a cry in the toilets.
Another time I was sat in the shelter when it was full, about eight guys were in there with me. An older man came in and said to one of his friends (who was sat down, like me) ‘While you’re down there!’
